Crewe and Nantwich adopts fully integrated Income Management system

9 July, Feltham. Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council, a district authority in South Cheshire, and the council that had the first person to cast their vote over the Internet, has adopted a fully integrated Income Management system, RadiusICON, including multi-channel e-Payments and cash receipting.

Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council had the first person in the world to cast their vote for a local councillor over the Internet at 9pm on Wednesday 24th April. This first in e-voting puts them well on the way to achieving their primary goal which is "To use technology to deliver high quality services which put the customer first, and to make the Council more available to the public."

Crewe and Nantwich has a stated aim of wishing to ensure that the Council meets the Government's targets for modern service delivery:

· Delivering the services people want to receive, by electronic methods

· Focussing on the needs of customers

· Increasing public awareness and opening up the Council

· Ensuring all sections of the community benefit

· Giving staff access to the information they need

This keenness to do the best for their citizens led the Council to choose a solution from Radius when looking to replace an old technology cash receipting system. The Council have said that they cannot afford premature investment in technology which in practice proves unpopular, or is swiftly superseded so they chose RadiusICON which provided the most complete, advanced and cost-effective solution.

This solution was a cash receipting system for 12 workstations, with distribution, reporting, counter debit/credit card, automated telephone and intranet payments modules. The system is to be implemented in two phases.

According to Pam Davis, Service Development Manager, "RadiusICON was chosen as it provides a more effective cash receipting capability and extends payment methods to provide a 24/7 capability thereby giving greater citizen choice under best value.

This solution will help us meet the government's requirements for Modernising Government and citizen-centric services by providing maximum capability for e-Payments.

We are expanding the system to web-based payments later in the year and eventually to provide on-line direct debit mandates.

As RadiusICON is Microsoft-based it fits well into our overall IT strategy and we look forward to moving ahead with Radius and delivering services in ways which meet the different needs of individual customers."

Editor's Note

Radius is the acknowledged market leader in the supply of software to enable citizens and businesses to pay all their council bills (including council tax, NNDR, rents, service charges, parking fines, etc.). As with all our e-Government systems, Radius' unique e-Payments solution is delivered across multiple channels, i.e. not just the Internet, but also call centres, automated telephone systems (using IVR - Interactive Voice Response), and kiosks. With a high level of take up amongst their citizens, combined with an automated, seamless link to all back office systems, our customers are reporting cost savings and a rapid return on their investment in our e-Payments solutions.

RadiusICON is a fully integrated system for cash receipting, Income Management and e-Payments, and is currently installed at over 100 UK authorities. RadiusICON also includes modules for bank reconciliation, miscellaneous income, e-returns, on-line direct debits, and an e-Payments portal.
