Radius celebrates its 21st anniversary and launches its new Financial Management Information System

L-R: Howard Green (Feltham Unit Manager, Radius), Clive Allen (Director of Financial Services, Surrey Heath BC), Phil Benton (MD, Radius), Mike Nuttall (Head of Financial Services, S. Ribble BC)

2002 sees Radius celebrating its 21st anniversary as a supplier of computer software and services to the UK Public Sector. Celebrations climaxed with a birthday party at June's CIPFA conference where we brought together some of our longest-standing Local Authority Radius Financials customers including Chester (16 years), Wychavon (14 years), South Ribble (11 years), and Surrey Heath (one of our customers in 1981). A number of Radius employees have been working with the Public Sector since the beginning, amongst them Howard Green, Feltham Unit Manager.

Initially trading as Systemsolve and MGB in the 1980's, Radius has become the secure, dependable supplier of applications to UK local authorities. It now has a base of over 200 UK Local Authority customers and, within the Local Authority arena, it is the recognised market leader of Financial Management. More recently it has established itself as a leader in the adoption of the principles of interoperability, and over the past two years has delivered an unrivalled 50+ multi-channel e-Payments systems to its customers, based on the latest in Microsoft technology.

Radius has been a staunch supporter of moves to adopt XML and industry-wide standards for open interoperability between applications from different developers/suppliers. It has also been an innovator in the adoption of the latest technology, for example its intelligence-led fraud investigation software based on data warehousing and sophisticated data matching is establishing itself as the standard for pro-active fraud investigation.

L-R: Jim Cassin (Head of Finance, Chester City Council), Sid Prichard (MD, Wychavon DC & President of Society of District Council Treasurers), Phil Benton (Radius), Jon Brain (Head of Financial Services, Wychavon DC)

Phil Benton, Radius Computer Services' Managing Director said: "As we reflect on the experiences gained from the past 21 years, and look forward to the next 21 years as a supplier to the UK Public Sector, we see that we are entering an exciting era of applications that work together easily, delivering citizen-centric transactions across multiple departments, with secure authentication and transfer of data between systems both internally and externally."

"Over the past three years we have invested, and will continue to invest, on average over £1 million per annum in research & development to produce the best in class, interoperable applications that our customers now demand. Our partnership with Microsoft allows us access to their latest technology that enables us to deliver truly scalable solutions with close integration to other applications. We intend to retain our market-leading position for the next 21 years."

As a result of our long-term development programme, 2002 also sees the launch of the new range of Radius Financials, a major new product built to meet the evolving financial management needs of local authorities in an interoperable, e-Government environment.
