Shrewsbury and Atcham BC - A new beginning with new offices and a new financial system

In March the staff of Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Council moved to brand new custom-built offices in Shrewsbury. Situated on the banks of the River Severn, the offices are easily accessible by an elegant suspension bridge that takes pedestrians over a main road and the river.

The move is part of the Council’s stated objective to modernise and further improve services to its customers.

The Council is also committed to using the very latest computer technology to streamline and automate many manual processes in a drive to meet the “modernising government agenda and the requirements of best value.” As a major part of this process the Council will be replacing many of its computer systems over the next few years starting with the introduction of a new financial management information system.

Following an intensive selection process the Council has selected Radius Financials as its preferred option. Mr Paul Pennell, the Head of Finance at Shrewsbury & Atcham BC, said: “We chose the Radius solution because it utilises the very latest Microsoft technology and it has all the functionality we need to meet the ever-growing demands on local authority finance. The solution was offered to the Council at a cost-effective price and represented excellent value for money for the taxpayers of the Borough.

The implementation project started in early April, after we had settled in to our new offices, and we plan to use the system in a live environment from the 1st October 2004.”

Radius will provide a comprehensive implementation service, together with appropriate assistance in the conversion of both existing and historic information, for use in the new system.
